Making Money Online

The idea of making money online is nice one in many of our heads, but many of us out there think it’s either too risky, or they just don’t have the kind of expertise required to setup up an e-commerce system, or find the right supplier for that matter. Whilst there are quite complicated web applications and systems out there that do require a certain level of experience and skill to develop, starting an internet business and making cash online doesn’t have to be about your programming ability. In fact, when it comes to wholesale product sourcing your ability to run a successful ecommerce business has little to do with your coding skill, and everything to do with finding the right products to fill the needs of specific markets.

The stigma with e-trade, particularly with regards to auction sites like eBay is that it’s impossible to enter the market now because there are far too many sellers now to make a profit. Whilst that statement might be true in regards to extremely popular commercial products e.g. the new Apple iPhone 3G or iPod Touch, there are thousands of other product categories out there with few suppliers and a high consumer demand. Remember, successful discount sourcing will depend on your ability to find markets in need, and wholesale suppliers offering those products cheap enough for you to make a profit.

It’s really all about the system you create; the way your online business approaches the research of consumer and supplier markets. If you are starting your internet biz now, or wanting to redefine the way you source and resell discount products, then start by creating a list of products you’d like to sell. The chances are none of these will be suitable to sustain a cash business, but the idea is you’re training yourself to research. You must now determine the lowest and average market value for these products in your desired selling format. If you wish to sell the products on eBay then you must research prices on eBay only. If you are planning to build an e-com store, then find the prices of your competitors who also operate online stores. The idea is to determine what prices you’ll need to source your products at in order to be competitive. Next is to source the wholesaler or drop shipper for you. This may take some time finding them and communicating with them for prices, but always make sure you do some background research on them before you send them money (i.e. business registrations, contact details etc.).

Even after diligent searching you might not always find a good enough price to be competitive in your chosen market, but don't be perturbed, just move on to the next product. If you can begin to understand that e-trade and reselling is all about return on investment on ANY product you sell and stop thinking about wanting to make money from selling popular 'cool' products, you'll be well on your way towards success through e-business.
